When we built up the "Sources" database on this site we maybe didn't give enough information on what they contain.
The Ship's List is one such site.
Not only does it give a list of emigration ships to the new worlds but it gives a lot of details about the merchant ships that were ploughing the seas at the turn of the last century.
This included Shipping Companies history and the history of their ships.
It is a good source if you have a relative in the merchant navy.
It does not give a list of Merchant seamen but if you know what ship they were on it will give you some background to where they were sailing, cargo etc.
If you have a merchant seaman's logbook or can get a copy of their C1, C2 or C10 cards this site can sometimes put flesh on the bones of the information they contain.
