I thought that it was appropriate to summarise, as far as is possible, this situation.
Some of these derive from the recent SP ugrade, but there's a continuing number of reports of problems with ActiveX, - see Sporran's recent posts at http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... ht=activex
Hello Davie,
by all means have a moan about SP: we all do, but do not forget to look at other sources and realise what you have.
I have checked my Previous Searches, where the drop-down page numbers work fine, and Viewed Images, where the page has to be selected twice before it goes there. I can live with the latter.
ActiveX still works for me, although I always download. SP have tried to fix ActiveX where it affects a small subset of the total number of users, but they have had to give up. The main reason is that ownership of the viewer has changed hands, and the new owners do not want to put any effort into supporting that package. Their alternative costs a lot more. SP are leaving the matter as it is for the time being until they assess other possibilities.
I have had no problems with any freezing of screens.
Anything else?
If there are matters that are really irritating people, the User Group can use what influence it has, but we need to know the problems and the number of people affected.

John

Hello all,
behind the scenes, SP have been working on the ActiveX problem, and used as external testers two people who posted their problems here. They have identified a possible, only possible, solution that will be tested further in the very near future.
Separately, there was a very recent problem with the Java viewer, caused by a corrupt file supplied by a third party. This caused problems with the menu buttons, and has now been fixed.
Finally, thank you Dennis. I worked in technical support for many years, and as a colleague said: "People don't ring us up and say 'Everything's still fine, thank you very much'". The support people at SP will be very pleased to receive your communication.
Regards,
John
It looks like a number at least of problems deriving from the recent upgrade are at least on the way to being solved, but there is still the underlying problem in relation to ActiveX - see Sporran's insightful comments above.
Note also the comments regarding a temporary problem with Java, just to help matters
For reasons not appropriate to detail here, the Scotlands People User Group meeting scheduled for Nov did not take place, and the next SPUG meeting is now unlikely to take place before mid-Jan 2006.
Please be reassured that the whole position in respect of image viewing problems will be a major agenda item at the next SPUG meeting, - both Sporran and I are members of the SPUG.
While we and other SPUG members are always doing what we can by email contact with GROS and SoL/SP, in the interim, please continue to submit contact forms to SP, and, where appropriate, report the results here on TS, preferably on this new thread.........
