Schooners from MacDuff ?

Post by Tracey » Mon Dec 26, 2005 11:01 pm

I have just found a file i labelled "Strays" ! and in it is a scrap (lots of scraps actually !) of paper with scribbly writing and i assumed it mentioned a Mae Duff. Having all this holiday period ive had time to stare at it and now see it says Mac Duff and mentions Schooner ! #-o actually says "with a Schooner from Mac Duff" the top has been torn off
Ok..............the only schooner i know of that my gt grandfather was on was Schooner Mary. He joined this sometime between April and August 1900. How can i find out if Schooner Mary was in or sailed from MacDuff ?All the time my gt grandfather was away on it his letters were addresses to The British Consul Danzig Prussia. I know she was back in the UK in Sunderland by October 1900 as his letters then are addressed to the seamans mission there and he must have left the schooner in November 1900 as he is back living in Wales Street Aberdeen.

Any ideas ?

going back to look at my "scraps" :-

Hi Tracey
I came across some info on a Schooner Mary may not be the one you are looking for but the date is about right,
Schooner Mary was Wrecked on Rascarrel Rocks at Auchencairn Bay 1906 last port of call could of been Whitehaven.
A link to the Titanic here with a Family name let me know if you want the page if you have seen the info before its ok.
Hugh.

Hi Steve

That would be great thanks.I dont think ive seen it before. Im getting worried now as he was always urged to go see family in Whitehaven and he dissapears (so far) in 1906  The last ship i have him on is the SS Thomas Wayman 1905 (which i should go look up at Greenwich) they are all care of Messrs Wood Taylor Brown Leadenhall St (and i get the shivers everyday as i pass no 44 !) and then back at The Fishermans home in Aberdeen after that he is off again - then 1906 he is in Poplar at the Seamans Rest so must find out what sailed from there also at that time.

Thanks for keeping us all informed on Maritime matters and posting all the useful info.
