Robert Urquhart on the 1851 census .....

Post by sunshine » Wed Jan 18, 2006 5:45 pm

I am trying to find Robert Urquhart born about 1846 somewhere in Scotland and wondered if anyone with the 1851 census census could look him up for me. I know he was in County Durham on the 1861 census and I have his marriage and death certificates but can't find any record of his birth. His father's name was Alexander. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Linda

Welcome to TalkingScot !!

There's more than a reasonable chance that the 1851 census index and images will be online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk in the next couple of weeks.

The only problem is that around 10% of the images won't be available due to the unacceptable quality of the scanned images, - the original enumeration books in question will be re-scanned, .... timescale?, - ask me after the SP User Group meeting on the 30th January ...........

Hi David,
Thank you for your welcome and quick reply. I'm really stuck with this relation, I've searched SP for his birth with no luck so I'm hoping to find something on the census, when it comes online!

Hi Linda
Did Robert's marriage or death certificate show his mothers name? :-k
There are a few Robert Urquhart's born around 1846 with fathers name Alexander.

If you had his mothers name it would narrow the search

Hi Jim,
No, sadly I don't have any other imformation on Robert. So far I've always got a "feel" for my family names and I was hoping the census might give me something new. Thanks for all your help though,
Linda
