Hi Ali
You face a number of problems here !!
Firstly, the very frequently occurring surname PAT[T]ERSON and a few more less common spelling variants.
Secondly, one or more of the 1881 kids, or the mother or father may have passed away by 1891/1901.
Thirdly, miners, be they coal, ironstone or shale were very mobile across the whole of Central Scotland.
While you could search on
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk in the 1891/1901 census records on the basis of matches for the known family members based on their ages in 1881, looking for matches in the same registration district, searches on the basis of +/- 1 or +/- 2 on the basis of the 1881 ages would produce many matches so that, even at 1 credit/page of 25 matches, it could cost quite a few credits, never mind the time required for the exercise.
This strikes me as a good demonstration of the advantage of visiting NRH in Edinburgh, and, for the £17/day, being able to view as many records as you like, - easily 100/hour, - or of using the services of a professional researcher to do that on your behalf .................
Were I taking this research forward, I first look for the maiden name of Mary,... KING?, - then her death record based on the cross-check surname possibility, - I can't see such a match which could mean emigration some time after 1881 ......
