Marriage in London - details requested .....

Post by AnneMT » Fri Jan 27, 2006 12:52 am

Can anyone to do a check for details from a marriage cert?

A great aunt (Agnes Brogan), married in March 1940 in Camberwell, London, to army officer with surname O'Brien.

Ideally, I would like all details on the marriage cert., but especially details of witnesses, one of whom was my mother. I have a photo of the wedding, and am trying to identify people in this photo, especially the bridesmaid. I have no idea who she is, but believe she is another family member.

I would greatly appreciate any help given.

Hello Anne,

Welcome aboard.

The least costly way to acquire the information you seek, other than having someone transcribing the actual certificate, is to purchase the marriage record from England's GRO. This can be done on-line at http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... ndex.asp#0 if you have the relevant document numbers and a credit card. In your case they are…

Marriage: Brogan/O'brien, 1st Quarter 1940, Camberwell, 1d, 2146

Enter that information in the appropriate fields of the GRO web site and they will send you a copy of the marriage record for 7 pounds.

Take care out there.

Thanks for the info. I intend ordering the cert fairly soon. Sorry I haven't replied sooner. This is first chance I have had to come back to this site.

Be aware that it can take up to between 2 and 3 weeks for a certificate ordered via the internet order to arrive, and make sure that you quote exactly the reference given to you by Bob.

Anne

David is absolutly correct. It could take a couple three weeks for the certificate to arrive, based on their work load. The reference codes I gave you are for that exact marriage. Any other date, location or numbers will produce someone elses marriage record.
