Coastguards......

Post by elmca » Fri Jan 27, 2006 8:30 pm

It appears that 2 of my ancestors were coastguards in Ireland sometime in the late 1800's. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to go about looking into this? Would they have been in the Royal Navy? Thanks in anticipation.........

Thanks for that link Hugh, I have been on that site in the past and contacted Tony Daly regarding my search but he couldn't help! I know there must be a fairly straightforward way to start looking, but to be honest everything I read about searching for coastguards sounds so complicated! :? Help!

Hugh

Are there equivalent resources for coastguards in the rest of the British Isles?

There should be but the Coastguard is cutting back its service we lost ours hear in the North East --We have to go to Humber-Coast- Guard for any Maritime info---Trinity House may well be worth a look at they are still up and running.
