Coastguards......
It appears that 2 of my ancestors were coastguards in Ireland sometime in the late 1800's. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to go about looking into this? Would they have been in the Royal Navy? Thanks in anticipation.........

Thanks for that link Hugh, I have been on that site in the past and contacted Tony Daly regarding my search but he couldn't help! I know there must be a fairly straightforward way to start looking, but to be honest everything I read about searching for coastguards sounds so complicated!
Help!

Are there equivalent resources for coastguards in the rest of the British Isles?

Thanks Hugh, I had a look at the National Archives as well, there is a lot of info but it's just knowing where to begin.
If i come across anything I will post the details.
