1921 Census question .....

Post by Ted » Sun Jan 29, 2006 2:53 pm

Hi Everyone

This may be a daft question - but I a bit confused. I know that our Census returns are covered under the 100 year rule before publication. However would the recent Freedom of Information Act not permit individuals to access a census that is covered by the 100 year rule - albiet that it would probably be on a document search for specific elements only and probably for a fee. I have a particular address in a small Ayrshire village - I would dearly like to know who were the occupants on the 1921 Census. I do know who the head of household is but do not know who else was in the house.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get access to this census?

Thanks lots

Ted

Hi Ted
Not a daft question at all.. :)
The Census is exempt from the freedom of information act, look under "Open Census Returns"

Would the Electoral Roll for the district help or were they not old enough to feature.. If they were still there 10 years later the 1931 Roll would perhaps cover

Hi Russell

Good suggestion - I am looking for a family - with 1 or 2 kids under 12 - they all went to the US in August 1921 - but I think they were living with a brother-in-law in March / April 1921. So I think it is unlikely that they would be on the electoral roll in 1921 - but I will give it a go just in case. I have them on a census in the US in 1930 and they died there - so I know they will not show on the 1931 electoral roll.

Thanks V much for your suggestions - every little helps.

Regards

Ted
