Found out a bit more about Reid and Ferris

Post by nica » Tue Jan 31, 2006 1:27 pm

I have managed to trace my Grandfather, Thomas Ferris, born to William and Bridget Ferris (nee Welsh) on the 18/9/1887. The address given was 28 Hall Side Street, Glasgow
If anyone has any information i would be grateful for it.
Nearly used all my credits and I would like to try to go a bit further before buying more-or at least know I am going in the right direction
Thanks
Love
Nica

Hello nica

Does the BC for Thomas happen to state where and when William and Bridget married? I just looked on the 1881 census and don't find a William and Bridget couple so I'm assuming it was after 1881. There are a few possibles for William Ferris or Bridget Welsh in the 1881 in Govan area especially. Finding their MC should give you their parents names and away you'll go!

Best wishes
Jean

Hi again nica

Well...it's just that if their Marriage Date and place is listed on Thomas's BC (which I think should be there!) then it would only take 6 credits to probably have the Marriage certificate in hand! With the info that will contain I'm quite confident I could quickly hand you the 1881 cenus info. My strong suspicions are that they were all from Ireland at one point and they all ran into each other in the Govan area. Even from your other post on Robert Reid.....there is a very good chance he was living with family unmarried in Govan in 1881....and I think this might be him...

But first you need just a few more documents to make these assumptions prove!!

You'll get there.....I'm sure of it

Best wishes

Here's Bridget in 1881.

No sign of William although a later census shows him as born Glasgow

The marriage is exactly where and when shown on Thomas's birth register entry, but you need to use FERI*S for William's surname when searching for it.

Wow, what are you folk like!!!! thank you very much.
Yes, I strongly suspect the info you have given me is correct particularly as we have always known there was an Irish connection but we never knew where, when how etc.
Yes, I will carry on looking and the info I have received from you will elp me pinpoint where I need to go rather than looking at too many 'wrong ' ones.
The MC for Patrick and Agnes Strain shows them living at 184 Rose Str, South Glasgow.
Again, thank you very much

Hi Jean,
Just looked again at the info about Robert Reid and, although it appears to fit, the year is wrong. Annie Reid would have been born around 1890 so if Robert was three or four in 1881, it can't be her father. Quite possible it is a relation though.
Thanks again for your help.
