New Eyes Please!!! .....

Post by ninatoo » Fri Mar 03, 2006 6:45 am

Hi all,

I am having trouble finding my Mooney family on the 1881 census.

Hugh Mooney, Head, aged about 66, Chemical Labourer, born Ireland
Agnes Mooney, wife, aged about 45, born Ireland (she may have died however)
Catherine Mooney, aged about 21, born Glasgow
Elizabeth Mooney aged about 19, born Glasgow
Agnes, aged about 14 born Glasgow.

I have them on the 1871 and Elizabeth married in Glasgow in 1882, so they can't have been far away. And yet there is no Elizabeth Mooney in Glasgow that fits. I have tried the one aged 19 and the one aged 24. Same with Catherine. Right age, wrong woman. Only one possible Agnes, but hard to prove as she is not with family, and the only appropriately aged Hugh states himself as single in a lodging house aged 60.

I have tried all sorts of name variations and wildcards...so is it just that they weren't there? So frustrating....so I am asking new eyes or brains to have a look or a think!

Thanks for reading!

Nina

Gone home to Ireland for a holiday?Parents dead/Mother dead & Hugh in lodgings & wrong age given?
Girls living elsewhere, could Catherine & Agnes have married & be enumerated under their new name?
