I have been searching high and low for John Donaldson, I knew his parents were supposed to be John and Elizabeth Donaldson (formerly Wright) but with no trace of a marriage for them or a birth for John (juinor) I was at a lose until he turned up on this census
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-437
John Donaldson (wifes son) age 12 - coal miner - Hamilton, Lanarks
But I cant read the name of the 2 children below him. I presume his mother married their father and then married again to James Nicol and had a son (James Nicol) by him.
Any help would be great

Do you have a death for Elizabeth naming a previous spouse or who signed the certificate for any clues ?

Hi Julie
I'd agree with Jack on the names of the two children - Agnes and Rosann who like John, seem to be the wife's children so it looks as if the wife had three partners up to the date of this census: a Donaldson, a McGuiness (or similar) and then James Nicol.
Best wishes
Lesley

No, my gtx2 grandmother had four children found so far. She NEVER married but three of her children carried (or used) their fathers sir names. Only two of the birth certificates had RCE,s.I presume his mother married their father and then married again to James Nicol and had a son (James Nicol) by him
