Hello,
A couple of years back I acquired an index of the Wishart surname in the 1851 census returns for Lanarkshire and noted that there was a Mrs John Wishart (aged 68) living in Bridgeton (ref: 602/24/21/11). Now that this census is online I thought I'd take a peek at the image, but can I find this person on scotlandspeople? I've done a wildcard search for w*s*h*r* for all of Lanarkshire but to no avail. I'm rather hoping that this is my 'missing' Helen Wishart, wife of John who is completely absent from any Scottish census prior to 1871.
Any clues?
Best,
Scott

Re: Wishart
Hello Scott,
a more creative use of wildcards will find her. Try *shart, age 68 to 68, Glasgow City and there is only 1. She was the mother-in-law of James Tullies, if that helps.
Please report the mis-indexing to SP via Contact Us, although the surname does look like how it was transcribed. Missing off 'Mrs' for a mother-in-law is unforgivable though.
Regards,
John

Cheers John,
I had a look at the image, and with a bit of detective work, found out that the 'Mrs' was actually Agnes, so not my girl! I've actually found a couple of other bits of mis-indexing and will report them along with this.
So, my five year quest continues to find my GGGG Grandmother on any UK census prior to 1871, when she is living on the High Street in Kirkcaldy, Fife. To recap, Helen Wishart (maiden name Shaw) born about 1787 in Glasgow. Married to John Wishart a Bookbinder/Silk Weaver who died before 1855, mother to four known children: Alexander (~1815 - 1888), Margaret (1819 - ?), John (~1824 - 1858) and Helen (~1826 - 1858). I have three of the four children in 1851: Alexander living in Abbotshall, Helen (Ellen) and John living in Dundee.
If anyone can offer any sage advice I'd be supremely grateful. I've tried to think around this one so much I don't think I can see the wood for the trees anymore!
Best wishes,
Scott
