1851 census - ayrshire .....

Post by karenc » Wed Mar 15, 2006 6:42 pm

Hi, i wonder if anyone has easy access to the 1851 census for ayrshire and if so if they could check something for me. i am trying to find a janet and mary bell. janet should be 16 and mary should be 13 they were born in ayrshire and it is possible they would be residing in old cumnock. this is where they are on the 1841 census although they dont appear to be living with a parent, but with another family member.

Thanks
Karen

P.S i did look on freecen but couldnt seem to find a match.

Census 1851 Ayrshire.

Dont know if people on this forum are aware the whole of Kilmarnock, is missing from the 1851 census on Scotlandspeople, plus I estimate that about ten percent of the rest of Ayrshire, is missing, this is with testing the 1851 index I have, and comparing it with Scotlanspeople, I personally think its been released to soon with little thought to the paying customer.

Hello Jonn

I was looking for ancestors from Kilmarnock and wondered what had happened to them.

Also I could not find another ancestor who should be there he stayed in Midlothian. I wanted to se if there were any other children.

No wonder I couldn't find them thought they were misindexed.
Do you know if other areas in Ayr are similarly affected?
Still awaiting action from SP.

Kilmarnock 1851 census

Post by deano » Fri Mar 17, 2006 5:24 pm

Hello David,

Scotlandspeople, have told several people who had problems with Kilmarnock, 1851 census that the whole of that district was ommitted by error, and they do not have a timescale for fixing the problemn, this was reported by a patron of Rootsweb Ayrshire Forum.

I then did a check of lots of names from the 1851 census index, on the Scotlandspeople Site, with zero results.

I then did a random check of names in Ayrshire, from the index, and there were lots missing.

Regards
Jonn.
