Missing Relatives .....

Post by hudggy » Thu Mar 16, 2006 7:08 pm

I wander if anyone can help I have on many occassions tried to find in the 1891 cencsus on SP to parts of my family. The first my great grandfather Charles Kerrighan what makes it hard is that in the 1901 census his name is Carrigan. All his children names changed at the same time have tried soundx maes no difference they lived in Lyon St Glasgow in 1901 and he married in Glasgow 1883 and all the children are born in Glasgow at diffenent address's.

The second again a 2nd great granfather William Calderwood he died in 1900 a week before my Great gandmother his daughter Elizabeth seems they died of the same sort of illness. I have never been able to find him any census. On his death certificate army pensioner on my G Grandmothers marriage certificate it states he was a engine fitter journeyman. His death took place at 8 Hinshaw St Glasgow. I forgot to add his wife Ann Mead died in Firhill Rd 1885 they also had to other children that I know of Sarah and William.
Hope someone can help me

Thanks in Advance

P.s Sorry I think i put this in the wrong place.

Hi Hudggy

I don' t think you're overlooking them....I don't think they're there either! Even using the very broadest of wildcard terms does not pick up a mutant Kerrghan/Carrigan. Same goes for Wullie Calderwood. Interesting to note though that Wullie's wife Ann died in 1885 and that was in Milton District. I've got a few of my own that disappered into the black hole of Milton District before 1881 and didn't show up again until a death in 1891 about 3 months after the census of that year. Due to the fact you say the childrens births are all recorded at different addresses it sure sounds like they were as unsettled as my lot. I think it was hard for the enumerator to count when people were between addresses  ! Doesn't help one bit though does it :( :!:

Best wishes

Hi Hudggy

I only found the death of Ann Mead Calderwood by looking at the MC and then looking in the Death Indexes.

I strongly suspect this may be William and Ann on the 1881 census...looks like you'll be needing to cast your net wider than Scotland...

Hi Hudggy

and since daughter Sarah states her birthplace as England in 1881 census....it looks like that's the way to go first
