1871/1881 census look-up .....

Post by thomsos » Sat Mar 25, 2006 1:57 pm

I am trying to trace a Margaret Clark b1855, father stayed in Polmont and is on the 1881 census with Margaret's son and Daughter, John and Elizabeth, she married an Archibald swan a/b1878, I have them on the 1901 census in Bothwell, but don't know where they have been 1871 onwards.

Hi Thomsos
You should be able to find them on Scotlands People - there is a Margaret Swan in the Stirling area in 1881 aged 27, husband Archibald. Certianly looks like she might be the one you are looking for as age is close and husband's name is correct and area seems likely.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi again thomsos

I didn't look at any 1871 records which would seem to be more likely when Margaret was working as a domestic. It seems after her marriage to Archibald Swan she was busy at home. A search on Scotlands People shows there is only one 0-1 year old John Clark in Polmont, Stirlingshire as is there only one Margaret aged 15-20 and only one Peter aged 50-60. I don't know if they are all in one household or not as I'm out of credits!!

Best wishes
Jean

Yes they are all in the one household - on Margarets sons bc 1870 her occupation is domestic servant, but on her Daughters bc 1873 she is now a pithead worker, so I guess I won't find out who she worked for
Thanks for your help
