Renfrew - shipyard workers ?

Does anyone know where I can obtain info about shipyards in the Renfrew area, please? A couple of ancestors from Renfrew town were ship carpenters and one was a ship engineer. Where would they have been working?

Didn't find your reply until today as my post was moved from the original forum I posted it on

My ancestors were in the shipyards in the mid 1800s - certainly 1841 onwards.

There would have been several shipyards in the renfrew and Paisley areas at that time. The last one to close was Simons-Lobnitz which i think was in the early 1960's.
have a look at http://www.clydesite.co.uk/articles/upperriver.asp which will give some ideas. S & L's records are in the Glasgow university archives
