Dropping out

Post by wini » Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:56 am

I had a problem a couple of weeks ago and it has recurred this afternoon
When viewing previous images when I click on Finished Viewing it takes me back to the Home Page and disconnects me so I have to log in again
I have sent a contact to SP just wondered if anyone else is having this problem.

Hi Wini

Don't worry it isn't you :D

This has been happening to me on and off for about three weeks. It doesn't seem to matter which sector you are in it will drop you out.
Maybe they are doing a test of genealogists patience.

At the opposite end of the scale FreeCen takes so long sometimes you can go off and make a cup of coffee while it ponders the question. This is worst if you put in a wild card.

'Keep the :D on your face'

Cos its almost..............

You don't have to be mad here
But it helps!!!!!

Wini

You'll find another thread from a couple of weeks or so ago where this, or something similar, was reported by a number of SP users.

Rather than losing the SP connection, what was happening to many was the screen reverting to the blank search screen when the button was hit to view a list of search results, or to view an image.

Most of us seem to have regarded it as a minor irritation and hadn't reported it to SP.

Thank You
Russell and David.

You have to allow for my limited computer skills, but I must admit I am learning a lot from TS

As to being Mad. I couldn't agree more. My Husband and children can confirm that.
I actually like being mad.
You know what they say "You don't have to be mad, but it helps"

Dropping out

I had a reply today from Scotlands People about the dropping out.

The site has timed out for security reasons, to prevent someone else using your credits or accessing your information. Simply log in again.
You will not have to buy more credits to comntinue searchin if you are within your 7 day session.

Howeve, if this occurs when it has been less than 60 minutes since you last used the site then change the following settings (normally only occurs in Internet Explorer)

1) Open I.E
2)click on tools menu and select"Internet options"
3)Under "Temporary Internet Files-clik the settings button
4)Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages" change to "Every visit to the page"
5) Click "O.K." Then "O.K." again
6) Reboot your machine

I suppose this is all common sense to you computer people but I will give it a try if it happens to me again

Latest problem for me is that SP has dropped me out and has taken me to a page that asks me to register. NO place to log in for existing users. I am in the middle of a search and this is very frustrating!

Maybe it just doesn't like AUSTRALIA.

I agree with the frustration.

I know patience is a virtue but I don't have any.

So wini are you getting the same problem today? Even when I can get a link on some pages that say log in for existing users, it takes me back to the main page where there is only a big red "Register" button, and no log in boxes like there should be. This change literally happened in the time it took me to purchase new credits! Grrrr! And it seems to be still happening.

So I tired using IE instead of Firefox and it worked okay but I hate using IE.

I then used adaware to get rid of any spyware, just to see if it would help, and now I can access login again. Weird.
