Help! Pattison Family! .....

Post by ali » Tue Mar 28, 2006 4:57 am

Hi!

Is it possible for someone to check for Poor records for Robert Pattison?
Or any census information?

Robert Pattison b 1831 Lochwinnoch Renfrew
Parents James Pattison & Mary Sharp.
Married Isabella Kelly 1850 Barony.

I have the death of Robert Pattison in Poor house Nittshill Barrhead 1907 age 74.Pauper Pedlar.
Usually residing lochwinnoch. Widower of Isabella Kelly

I believe this could be his family 1861
Living Shotts

Robert Pattison Head 29 b Renfrew
Isabella 30 b Renfrew
James 10 b Renfrew
Ann 8 b Lanark Glasgow
Robert 4 b “ Old Monkland
Mary 2 b Renfrew

Ann/ Annie Pattison married Henry King …..1889 Ayr
Isabella her mother deceased ( Can’t find Isabella's death)
Annie died 1899 cambusnethan

Annie is in 1891 census giving birth place as Renfrewshire Paisley.
This makes things a bit confusing. I do have Robert and Mary her siblings births from IGI.
I haven’t really been able to trace this family other than this information.

Thought I had found Annie 27 living with Brother William in 1881 but I think this maybe one of her relations.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'll have a look next time I'm at The Mitchell.
What was Robert's occupation?

Hi Ali and Annette,
I hope you can find Robert in the Renfrewshire Poor Relief records Annette, because he's proving VERY elusive in the 1851 census!
Though i "think" i may have found him with his family in 1841.

Ali, i notice that the 1861 Shotts census has Robert (and Isabella) both as born Kilbarchan, as was son James 10.
So not wanting to build up hopes - some questions first!

On Robert PATTISON's 1907 DC what was father James' occupation?
Do you know the names etc of any other children born to James PATTISON & Mary SHARP?

Hi Jack & Annette
I'll have a look next time I'm at The Mitchell.
What was Robert's occupation?
Annette.
On 1861 it says his occupation Ironstone Drawer (I think)
On Robert PATTISON's 1907 DC what was father James' occupation?
Do you know the names etc of any other children born to James PATTISON & Mary SHARP?
Jack.
On Robert's death certificate it says that his father James was a Cotton Spinner.
I will add that on the death cert it does have his mother as Molly Sharp instead of Mary and his wife as Elizabeth instead of Isabella. I do think these are errors

And this is the family I have from the IGI.

JANET PATTISON -
Female Christening: 23 JAN 1825 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

ROBERT PATISON -
Gender: Male Christening: 06 MAR 1831 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew

WILLIAM PATTISON -
Gender: Male Christening: 15 DEC 1822 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew,

JOHN PATTISON -
Gender: Male Christening: 19 APR 1818 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew

MARY PATERSON -
Gender: Female Christening: 16 FEB 1834 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew

JAMES PATTISON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 13 AUG 1820 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew

So thats all I have and Hope I'm not barking up the wrong TREE again. 8-[

Thank You both
Ali

Hi Ali,
I know you have these from the IGI, they're just for comparison with the censuses.
And i couldn't say what happened to children James (1820) & Janet (1825) after 1841,
but they could well be about somewhere.
[PATTISON, and similar, is sometimes indexed as PATTERSON, or similar]
==
JAMES PATTISON
MARY SHARP
Marriage: 16 MAR 1816 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
-- some children --
THOMAS PATISON - Christening: 06 OCT 1816 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
JOHN PATTISON - Christening: 19 APR 1818 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
JAMES PATTISON - Christening: 13 AUG 1820 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
WILLIAM PATTISON - Christening: 15 DEC 1822 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
JANET PATTISON - Christening: 23 JAN 1825 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
ALEXANDER - abt 1827 Abbey?
ROBERT PATISON - Christening: 06 MAR 1831 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Scotland
MARY PATERSON - Christening: 16 FEB 1834 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Scotland
ANDREW - abt 1836 Abbey?
--
As some of the children are living with each other in 1851 i can only guess that their parents,
James PATTISON & Mary SHARP have possibly died by then?

But goodness knows where your Robert & Isabella are in 1851...!
I'd have expected either Glasgow/Lanarkshire or Renfrewshire, but i can't see them.

Hi Jack,

Thank you so much for your time and effort.

I will have a closer look at all you have sent. It seems it could definatley be them.

Strange that we can't fine Robert & Isabella.

Lets hope Annette might come up with something.

Hello,
Sorry no index for Robert at The Mitchell. Maybe someone will try Paisley.

There is one for James in this family who says he was born in Lochwinnoch:

Thomas PATTISON, head, marr, 33, cotton spinner, b Johnstone, RFW
Margaret PATTISON, wife, marr, 33, spinners wife, b Lochwinnoch, RFW
Jas. PATTISON, son, 14, cotton piecer, b Abbey Parish, Johnstone, RFW
Jos. PATTISON, son, 13, cotton piecer, b Abbey Parish, Johnstone, RFW
Janet PATTISON, daur, 12, scholar, b Abbey Parish, Johnstone, RFW
John PATTISON, son, 9, scholar, b Abbey Parish, Johnstone, RFW
Thos. PATTISON, son, 4, ----------b Lochwinnoch, RFW

regards,
Annette M

Thank you for looking anyway Annette..

It looks like it might be a bit of a dead end at the moment.

And so confusing when the birth places vary!
Like Robert Pattison's birth says Lochwinnoch and then 1861 Shotts census has him born Kilbarchan.

When was the the poor releif for James did you get any of the details?

I did write to Paisley and this was the answer.

The Poor Law statements in our collection relate solely to Paisley and would not include any applications for Poor Relief for Nitshill or Lochwinnoch (his usual residence). To make sure, I did check our indexes but found no match for your ancestor. We do not know where the Poor Law Registers for Lochwinnoch are but they are most probably lost. The copy of the death certificate you included refers to the Poor House in Nitshill which was a neighbouring village to Barrhead.

Thank you
Ali
