Hi, i wonder if anyone can help me. i am having a problem tring to search the OPRs

. i click on the births or marriages section and it brings me up with the search sreen as normal. i then proceed to type in all the details of what i am looking for and it brings me up with a page that says:
chech the latest news before continuing and lists the latest news bullet points it also has the bottom secton with all the search headings in the coloured section which are on every page.
it is very frustrating

. i sent an email to scotlands people and they told me that either i had no credits left, they had expired or i had to try clearing my cache. i had credits, they hadnt expired and i tried clearing my cache, and on the assumption that i did it correctly this did not work.
i used to be able to search the OPRs without any problem although i have not tried to do this for a while until recently. it is really puzzling me and hampering my research so any help would be appreciated
Karen

Hi Karen
Just come across your post. Have you found a solution to your OPR searching problem yet? I hope so.

The biggest problem I have with the OPR search facility is that you cannot search by County. My ancestry came from Irvine, Ayrshire. Irvine is a small parish and Royal Burgh and it is common for people to jump just across the boundary to Dreghorn, Kilwinning or Dundonald parishes. All in all this is simply moving within a three - four mile radius of Irvine town centre to accomplish this!
I raised the issue with the GRO. The e-mail reply was that they were not arranged by County and they had no intention of re-indexing to accomplish a County Search. However, I would have thought it was not too much of an issue to link towns to particular counties and achieve what is desired. I remember visiting New Register House in 1996 and they had a county search option.

Hi Peter
When you are using the OPR search it is possible to locate family in more than one parish.
If you search each parish for possible hits. Take a note of those you find then highlightnthem in turn holding down the Control key. This should highlight only those selected. Now press 'search' and the results should cover all those from the selected parishes (only 5 parishes can be highlighted).
So far for us this has brought up a dozen children to a couple spread over 4 parishes.
All for 1 credit!!

Hmmmmmmm....... that's a bit different from what's been said to the ScotlandsPeople User Group. While no timescale has ever been given, - in other words, it's way down the priority list, - it's been generally recognised by GROS that the possibility of searching by county in the OPR indexes would be a valuable future addition.
Was it GROS with whom you had contact, or ScotlandonLine/ScotlandsPeople ?
The OPR search system at NRH, - the "green on black" system, - still exists. Not only can it be searched by county, but also, if a small county is involved, it automatically shows matches for neighbouring counties.

The reply came from Scotland's People. I must admit I had the County Search for the OPR that is available at NRH in mind when I contacted them.

Ah-hah, - that would explain things!
ScotlandonLine/ScotlandsPeople have no authority to speak on behalf of GROS in relation to what may or may not be the future intentions of GROS

PS The systems at NRH and SoL/SP in Dundee are quite separate, and not linked.
