Birth cert- District High Church, Glasgow.
Kirkwood
Joseph Milne, 12 March 1858, father Joseph Milne, mother Janet Kirkwood
On the side of this cert there is a petition that is hard to read, but it seems to indicate that on the 2nd July it was found that Joseph Milne was the father of the above child.
I can not find Joseph Milne or Miller, in the 1861 or 1871 Census. He does appear in the 1881 Census as Joseph Miller, boarder, Cambuslang.
Joseph Miller gets married on 29 Sept 1882 in Cambuslang to Mary Jones, Church of Scotland. Joseph Miller, reputed father, deceased, mother Janet Kirkwood, M.S. Kirkwood.
I want to get back one generation, however there are no birth dates for the parents of Joseph born 1858, and too many Miller's Milne's and Kirkwoods.
Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thank you
Moreen

"I wonder if anyone has information on the 1861 census for Glasgow.
Looking for Joseph Miller Born 1859 Glasgow, mother Janet Kirkwood. unmarried.
She could be living with her parents but I don't know their names."

Re: Joseph Miller's reputed father
Hi Moreen,
I hadn't intended to build up your hopes, and i'm sorry if i have.
I'd been looking for any Joseph "MILNE" / "MILLER", coalminer, in the Shettleston area 1851 that might be suitable,
and this Joseph MILLAR was the only one anywhere near in name.
I can't see a Joseph "MILNE", or similar name, in the area.
The Joseph below is ages with Janet KIRKWOOD, but that means nothing,
and he could well be an innocent party, and i'm doing him a great injustice by accusing him!
But i can't see any way of proving that he is, or isn't, wee Joseph's father....
There's always the possibilty that wee Joseph's father only worked in Shettleston for a short time around 1857,
and had even left the area before he was born in 1858.

ps, meant to say, at least you now know who Joseph 22 was boarding with in Cambuslang 1881 - his aunt & uncle!
