I'd have thought that credits could be transferred from one person to another, but no.

Not sure I get your question...
If you have credits you want to give away the best way to do that is perform a voluntary lookup for someone and transcribe the info for them. If you need some more credits yourself then you have to do the purchasing yourself and maybe someone would gift you the money to buy them with. If they are expired then the only way to reactivate is to buy more.......that's as good as it gets at the moment
