Hi every1 can any1 help me, Im trying to find grt grt grandfather Hugh Mcdonald. On the 1891 england census it says he was born in New greenock. For some reason he moved to England, west midlands and married Ive got his marriage cert in 1884 which states he was a widower. Although I cant find any mention of a 1st wife. His Father was James Mcdonald and they were both Tailors.I cant find a death or a birth cert, I would really like to find out his mothers name and his previos wife. Any help or advise would be appriecated..Im totally stuck

Can you maybe tell us what Hugh's given age was in the 1891? There are a LOT of Mc/Mac Donalds in Scotland!
On his marriage cert in 1884 is his father stated as "deceased"?

Hi Claire,
I tried the 1881 census. There was only one Hugh M*cDonald born in Renfrew of about the right age (about 1842) but he was a plumber living in Edinburgh.

on the 1891 census he is 48 .
His father was alive when he married but havent found him in the west midlands so maybe he stayed in scotland. thanks for getting back to me. i didnt think i would hear from any1. claire..
