Ina,

You are posting this for someone else so I am sure you would have told ellenalana about Scotland's People.

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

I searched for Mat*hew McShane in 1901 for all of Scotland and there were only two.

1901 MCSHANE MATTHEW M 10 ST MACHAR ABERDEEN CITY/ABERDEEN 168/02 051/20 029

1901 MCSHANE MATTHEW M 19 HUTCHESONTOWN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/11 093/11 001

The second one seems likely.

Researching: Easton ( Renfrewshire, Dunbarton and Glasgow), Corr (Londonderry and Glasgow), Carson (Co. Down, Irvine, Ayrshire and Glasgow), Logan (Londonderry and Glasgow)

If Matthew's parents are listed as John and Mary Cavanagh you'll quickly get into the realms of Irish and American family history.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.
