I have this "Erchie" well documented. Birth, Marriage and Death(1890) Also 1841, 1861, 1871, 1881. All West Lothian

Between 1845 (birth of a child in Uphall West Lothian)and 1854 he went to Russia! Three children born in Russia .......... 1854, 1855 and 1857. Next child born in 1858 in Uphall West Lothian.

I'm trying to determine when he went to Russia.

It would appear now that he was in Russia 1851. I'm just fascinated to know why he went there.

Mind you what the heck I do about him now I don't know

Hi Jean,
You could well be right in that Erchie was in Russia - can't see him in Lanarkshire anyway.
And i know you'll have checked the Lothians.
By coincidence there are a couple of THOMSON children in Cambuslang 1851 also born Russia.
But i know John, 16 in 1861, was born Uphall.
Here are the basic details, just in case you can see any connection to your own THOMSONs.
