1851 lookup - Airdrie or New Monkland, please? .....

Post by catbug » Sun Jun 25, 2006 8:05 pm

Hello,

Would anyone with access to the 1851 census in Airdrie or New Monkland possibly be able to do a look up for me as there is no image on SP. If not, does anyone have any ideas how I can access the info online? This is the search result I got on SP:-

1851 GALLACHER HUGH M 10 AIRDRIE OR NEW MONKLAND /LANARK 651/00 002/00 011 No Image

Any help at all would be hugely appreciated as I am trying to determine whether this is the Gallacher family I have been looking for for some time, with little or no success.

Thanks :D,
Cat

Hello Willie,

Thanks very much for looking that up for me - it's much appreciated. I'm still not sure if it's the correct family as they have been proving very, very difficult to find (even with help I've had previously) but it is a possibility so your reply was very helpful :D .

Thanks again,

Cat

Hi Cat,
With Willie's help - and it seems a pretty full household.
James' age is not easy to read with any certainty - it could be 37, 38, or even 57, 58.
One index i looked at has him as 37, another as 57....my first thought was 58.

Hi Jack,

Thanks very much for that, it's much appreciated :D. You helped me with this family before, I don't know if you remember? It was some time ago but I'm still not having much luck with them! It was Hugh I was looking for and he doesn't seem very sure of his age on all the documents I have, being born anywhere between 1838-1842. This family in the 1851 census seemed like a good bet, especially as his parent's names match, but in the only census I have for him (1871) he says he was born in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. However, every Hugh G*l*her I have found in the correct age bracket in the 1861 census is born in Ireland. I still don't know what is going on, even after all this time :) . He later gives his occupation as a "travelling weight tester", so I suppose he could be anywhere if 'travelling' is meant literally (I only say that because the first time I saw Journeyman written on a document I thought it meant traveller!). Unfortunately he died in the 1870's so I can't get any more census info for him. Just one of my many brick walls - I don't think any of my family want to be found, lol  .

Thanks again for all your help,
Cat
