Hi Bernadine
I'm not sure what you have seen & what not... but have you had a look for the marriage of Margaret Ritchie and John Blues? There seems to be one in 1900 in Kincardine on Scotlands People, which, if it is the correct couple, (and it kinda looks about right, date & place-wise) should give you their parents' names.
If it is the correct couple, the 1901 census would be worth checking as well.
Best wishes
Lesley

John Blues/Margaret Ritchie
Hi Bernadine,
I agree with Jean that Margaret Ritchie's parents are Thomas Ritchie and Christina Lownie. The couple also had:
Isabella 1862
James 1864
Jean 1865
Elizabeth 1868
Thomas 1870
John 1874
Alexander Lownie 1880
Thomas Ritchie and Christina Lownie were married 1861 Bervie. (They would have lived in Gourdon, the fishing village in Bervie Parish.)
The next question is, who were Thomas's parents ? There were two Thomas Ritchies born at this time:
Thomas 1842. Parents: David Ritchie & Mary Murray.
" 1839. " : Thomas Ritchie & Jessie Carnegie.
I believe them to be the latter, but the only way to be certain is to look up the Thomas Ritchie/Christina Lownie marriage on ScotlandsPeople. This is a pay per view site, and for £6.00 you can look up 5 certiificates
Should the parents be Thomas & Jane Carnegie, they were married 1837 Bervie, and in addition to Thomas, they had William 1841 and James 1843.
The reason that I'm following this up is because I live in Bervie

Margaret Ritchie
Thank you so much for your help I do think it was the latter too because my late mother-in-law Elizabeth Jane Mackie Nisbet(nee Blues) was born and raised in Gourdon,a lovely place which I have been to often.Lizzie had a sister named Christina Lownie Blues so you can see they kept the names in the family, for a good job it help's us folk to sort them out. There was another sister Catherine Fotheringham(nee Blues) she lived in Johnshaven also a brother Thomas. We know now that Thomas Ritchie was called after his father Thomas born1816.it's getting interesting now I hope I can get back even further Thank you all so much Bernadine

The only Thomas Ritchie (husband of Jessie Carnegie) that comes up when searching for his birth in the Kincardineshire section of the I.G.I. is a Thomas born 15 Jan 1815 to William Ritchie & Margaret Jervis. They also had a daughter Ann born 21 May 1809. I could find no record of this couple's marriage.
The library here has microfilms of the Census records and the Old Parish Register of Bervie so I'll see what, if anything, the entry for Thomas's birth has to say. Should you want me to look up anything else you only have to ask.
Bervonian.
