Where can i find details of an 'Annuitant' ?

Post by robertson26 » Sun Sep 24, 2006 2:27 pm

Hello

My GGG Grandfather Robert Sutherland died in July 1857, Auchterarder.

On the 1881 census his widow is recorded as an 'Annuitant'.

Am i right in believing that this means she was in reciept of either a Pension or Life Insurance ?

Where can i find out exactly what and how much she was recieving ?

I have tried looking on Scotlandspeople for a will for Robert Sutherland with no luck.

I would sincerely appreciate and ideas or suggestions.

Thank you

Debbie

A quick Google came up with loads of sites related to pensions and benefits, so it seems that is what she was receiving.

Hi Debbie,

Maybe it's worth looking to see if she left a will if you haven't already. Maybe it would give some clarification.

Kind regards,

Alison

Thank you Tracey for pointing me towards the will on SP, however i am not sure if it is my Robert as it says under description 'residing in Dumfries' whereas my Robert lived and died in Auchterarder, Perthshire.

I must look for a will for Catherine.

Thanks again

Just to str..e..t..ch this thread a wee bit more, has anyone encountered a "Fund holder" as occupation on a DC? I assume the person concerned (a spinster of 77 in 1938) had a little pile, though it is not obvious where from. Any suggestions welcome.

Good hunting,

Thrall.
