Hi folks,
We were wondering if anyone can help.
We have a Mcgregor family in Swindon, England in 1861.
John(c1807 Longforgan)
Isabella(c1807 Dundee( Crabb)
Margaret(c1834 Dundee)
Jannet(c1844Dundee)
Ellen(c1847 Swindon).
We cannot find them on the 1851 census so wondered if they were visiting family in Scotland in 1851.
Also, we think they may have been living in Dundee in 1841.
Cheers.

Hi Skaville,
The place to find these, if they were in Scotland at the time is at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk (on a pay per view basis). Unfortunately it will not be easy with any of these names. Here are my suggestions for the use of wildcards to cover the most common spelling variations.
M*cGregor
Is*b*l*
Margaret / Maggie / Peggy
Jan*et / Jessie
Hel*en / Ellen / Nellie
All the best,
AndrewP

According to the IGI John and Isabella had a son John in 1829 who seems to be the only child registered.
The girls' ages are a bit out here (could this Janet have died?) and I don't know how you could prove this was them in 1841 but this was the only likely family I could find living in Dundee.
From FREECEN:

skaville wrote:Thanks. I think thats them in 1841, just found the index on Ancestry. The dad John must be out somewhere. That Janet must die as another ones born a few years later. Found a James, not John born in 1829. The others must have been christened in another church.
