School Admission Registers.....

Post by CatrionaL » Thu Apr 14, 2005 9:58 am

Hullo all
This week I discovered the usefulness of School Admission Registers. Glasgow Archives sent me a list of pupils registered at the John Neilston Institute in Paisley, who had Given and Surnames found in my Paisley Family. The information given was Full Name of Child, Date of Birth, Father's Name, Address and in some cases Occupation. Thanks to this info I've been able to add a generation to my tree and find a mariage that eluded me. The plus was having the exact birth dates to take to SP.

Hope this is of help to someone

Hi Nancy

The Archives don't have information about Paisley Grammar School that would include pupils names. Sorry I don't know about any of the other schools but it would probably be worth asking.

The Archives can be contacted at archives@gcl.glasgow.gov.uk
The person with whom I have corresponded is Lyn Morgan.

Hope you find as helpful info as I did.

Have you ordered the good weather yet? :)

Warm greetings
Catriona

Hi Catriona,Got a very speedy reply from Lyn about school registers. She said if I could manage in to Mitchell Library,I might be able to find what i'm looking for.My cousin goes up quite often,so i'll try and manage with her next time.I've only been once before and all the staff were very helpful.Well Catriona,it's been terribly wet all day.I hope it's well away by the time you come over.
