1851 entry on Scotlandspeople .....

Post by elisabeth » Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:57 am

Can someone help me find my Robertsons in Logie(Perth) on Scotlandspeople? I have the 1851 index for Logie and on the index at enum. dist. C1 Page 24 family 110 is William Robertson age 26, Cathrine age 24,Willm. age 2 and Mary 8m. I have tried all sorts of wildcards and get no matches for any of them. The list of missing districts doesn't include Logie and although Menstrie, the district I'm interested in, was actually part of Clackmannanshire at the time, the only option for searching is Logie(Perth).
Thanks,
Elisabeth

Hello Elisabeth,

I could not find your family either. Since someone else has extracted the details from film, we must assume that the family has been missed, and perhaps others on the same page. I suggest that you fill in a contact form, linked via "Contact Us" on any page of the SP site, giving all the details that you have. If you suggest how many credits that you have wasted, it is probable that they will be returned.

John

I've now done a random check of other surnames in the threee Clackmannanshire enumeration books for Logie and none of them have been found by Scotlandspeople. I'll do as you suggest and contact them. Thanks for checking my findings,
Elisabeth

Hi Elisabeth,

I think the Clackmannanshire part of Logie is also missing from the DIGROS system in New Register House. I hope to be in there soon and will confirm it then.

All the best,

AndrewP

Part of the reply form Scotlandspeople:-
"A possible omission had been noted re part of Logie and was looked into.
1851 was indexed completely differently from the others, and has been renumbered in the computer index, but this may have led to some problems. Logie is apparently in Stirling and Perth only in 1851 so it is possible a Clackmannan part has been omitted from the index",
They're going to search for my Robertsons( and the rest of Clackmannanshire Logie).

Hello Elisabeth,

good to hear that you are being looked after by SP. I have contacted the person in GROS who looks after imaging to alert him about the problem.

Thanks, John. I hope there haven't been too many people looking for their ancestors unsuccessfully in Menstrie and Blairlogie in 1851. As well as a very fast response, Scotlandspeople gave me 20 extra credits :)

Hi Elisabeth,

Those in Blairlogie should be there on ScotlandsPeople as that was in the Perthshire part of Logie Parish. The ones apparently omitted are those in the three Clackmannanshire parts of the parish. Three separate parts of the parish were in Clackmannanshire, one part including Menstrie. The two parts of the Logie Parish in Stirlingshire are there on ScotlandsPeople, as is the middle part of the parish, the Perthshire part. The county boundaries divided the parish into these six portions comprised of parts of the three counties.

All the best,

AndrewP

And I thought Alva being in Stirlingshire in the 1800s while being completely surrounded by Clackmannanshire was complicated! Unfortunately Central Library don't have Logie on film so I'll just have to wait patiently for it to appear online. I would imagine that, if it's not just a case of the index being missing but the actual images not being there either, my credits may expire before that happens.

Hi Elisabeth,

Is that Edinburgh Central Library? If yes and they don't have it, there's a good chance that the SGS Library a couple of hundred yards away in Victoria Terrace has the microfilm.

All the best,

AndrewP
