1911 Census .....

Post by mcblondie » Wed Nov 01, 2006 11:44 pm

Hi all,

Stupid question here, but does anyone know when the 1911 census for Scotland will be released? I can further my research until the next census  trying to locate my grandfather and his brother but don't think they came to Scotland from Lithuania until 1910.

Thanks

You had better be praying that they were in Scotland by 2nd April 1911. The census recorded all those living in Scotland (and the rest of the UK) on that night. Otherwise you will be waiting another 10 years for the 1921 census to exceed the 100 year closure rule.

All the best,

There's a possibility, but don't hold your breath, that 1911 census for Scotland might be released on the exact date of the end of the 100 year closure period, i.e. 2nd April 2011 represents that anniversary, rather than the 1st January 2012, - the latter practice of 1st January following only developed for a couple of very practical reasons.

Thanks for the replies folks. :)

Is there anywhere you can go to see the next census other than waiting another four years.

No, it is under lock and key until then - both on paper and online. The 100 year closure rule is applied to all formats.

All the best,
