1851 Census .....

I am looking for my Stevely Family in the 1851 Census--on the 1851 Census index cd for Glasgow,Barony and Govan they are living in Shettleston with Stevely spelt Stanley, James 40, Mary 30, Hugh 16, James 10, David 4, John 2, the index info is Shettleston ward 605,enum4.page 8,id 293553 to 8, i cant find them on scotlandpeople and they say they dont do searches,it looks like the transcriber has spelt the surname different, i have tried wildcards with no success. can any one help me with this.

Wow....that was certainly tricky!! Gave up on the SP wildcards and went over to Ancestry to see what they could do.....and found this...

and shook my head in wonder and amazement thinking this had to be way off.....but went back to SP to search using HARLEY

and found

1851 HARLEY HUGH M 16 BARONY GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 622/00 267/00 008

Perhaps this is the one and only time both SP and Ancestry will agree...and both be wrong

At least you can go and find the image now....

I'd have read it as Harley without a moment's thought

The way that the "St" are written is exactly like an "H".
