Hello
Here is Margaret from Canada, my friend from rootschat have asked me for some wee help but I am not sure if you can help me to find out more information on Glamis Castle,
He wanted to know if anybody can help him to find out more about his relative who worked at Glamis Castle she was Royal knitter something like that. He said that her first name was Christina who was born in Dundee in 1882. The problem is that he don't know what was her maiden name but he know that she was married to 2nd husband Alfred Ashton who was born in Lancashire. They were married in Sask, Canada in around 1906-1910.
Anybody can give me any websites to see if anybody know where to get informations on lists of workers who worked at Glamis Castle. I forgot to ask him what year she worked there I guess before 1910?
Please let me know. Thank you so much,
Margaret
Where do I can get information on Glamis Castle?

Dear Margaret
Here's the link to the official website for Glamis Castle:-
http://www.glamis-castle.co.uk/
It lets you have a look around and see what the area is like. This site tries to convince us all that the castle is haunted ... http://www.mysteriousbritain.co.uk/haun ... lamis.html
I don't really know much about the area, but I'm sure someone on TS will have some good local knowledge and may be able to point you in the right direction.
If you click on the search button at the top of this page, you can put the workd Glamis in and search the TS site for other mentions of Glamis. That might give you a bit more information about others on this site who may know more about the area.
Cheers!
Liz

From 1911 Canadian Census - Saskatoon
Alfred Ashton - age 25 - born England 1886
Christana (as written) - age 29 - born Scotland Dec 1882
John - son - age 10/12 - born Saskatchewan August 1910
Genealogical certificates may be ordered:

Their marriage certificate would likely give her previous surname in addition to her maiden name.
Hope this is of some help.

Hi Margaret,
Some time ago I was trying to find out infomation about an ancestor who worked at Eglinton Castle (never followed it up). Someone gave me the following address of the Royal archivist who apparently is able to trace past employees at any Royal castle.
Dr Eileen Scarff (Archivist)
The Chapter Office,
The Cloisters,
Windsor Castle,
Berkshire,
SL4 1NJ
So hopefully the above address will help when you have the maiden name.

I think you'll find that Glamis isn't a Royal Castle. It was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother - i.e. a "merrit oan tae" rather than an actual Royal. Glamis is still owned by the QMs family, the Earls of Strathmore. I imagine that they have an administrator and/or archivist who might well have lists of employees.
