Xmas announcements
Please note that our customer services will be observing the public holidays 25, 26 Dec and 1, 2 Jan 2007.
It is our intention towards the end of January 2007 to make available on ScotlandsPeople the images of the Old Parochial Registers (births and baptisms 1553-1854 / banns and marriages 1553-1854). Customers may wish to bear this in mind if they are considering ordering a formal OPR extract in the near future.
Finally keep a look out for the New Years Statutory Data which will be online shortly.

Pandabean, that is great news. I have quite a few credits which are timed out and a huge amount of opr information to search through. Can't wait! Once our Australian visitors leave at the end of January I can get over their going by keeping busy on S.P., hopefully!
Merry Christmas,
Rae

Re: SP Christmas service
It will mean that where just now the OPRs on ScotlandsPeople are an index only with no images, that the images will be added, so you will no longer have to send away for a printed copy of any OPR to be sent to you. The images will be there online in the same manner as the birth, marriage, death and census records that are already on ScotlandsPeople.wini wrote:Does that mean the Online Service will still be available?

ScotlandsPeople will have the door open wide for you to spend your credits. As ever, if you have credits lying that have passed their expiry time, when you next buy credits, these older credits become available to use again. They are not lost.
The significant difference is that the OPRs are not in a set layout or style as the others all are. The others all started as forms with a set layout and type of information to be given. The OPRs were blank books of various sizes and shapes, and the amount of information given and the style it was given in was down to the individual Minister or Session Clerk of each parish.
I have a feeling that the TalkingScot "help with deciphering handwriting" will be busy when these come online.
All the best,
AndrewP

www.ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk never "shuts its doors" except for outages due to maintenance and upgrades (and maybe the very occasional glitch resulting in an unplanned outagewini wrote:Does that mean the Online Service will still be available?

All that
means is that any emails to Customer Services can't be expected to receive a reply on those dates, and that there might be a wee bit of a backlog to clear after those dates. Please note that our customer services will be observing the public holidays 25, 26 Dec and 1, 2 Jan 2007.
The www site still be live, as will TalkingScot

SP Christmas service
Thank you Andrew & David,
I am probably one of the few who will be checking in tomorrow night Oz time.
I have finally tracked down through SP some missing M*cPh*e's from Skye in the most unlikely places, now I am getting carried away.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL
Hope Santa leaves something nice in your stocking.
My wish is a Bracelet made of Kalgoorlie Gold, Broome Pearls and a nice Argyle Diamond. Not this year though
More likely to be Iron Ore from the Pilbara.
