Hi, I hope someone can help.
I have tried logging onto Scotlands People tonight for the first time in almost a fortnight. I entered my username and passwod, but it is telling me that no combination of those exists.
I requested a forgotten password email, and the password it gave me was definately not mine as it was a combination of what appears to be random letters and numbers. I use the same password for everything, so there has never been a problem before with me 'fogetting it'. For some strange reason this password confirmation email went straight to my junk mail. In my junk mail I also came across another password confirmation email which was sent on 31 Dec, which I ceratinly didnt request as I was nowhere near my pc that day. In that email the password was a different combination of letters and numbers. I again requested another password confirmation email, in which I was given a third combination of of letters and numbers. However, none of those combinations are matching my username. I have emailed S>P, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

got this today from Scotlandspeople:
Hello
I hope the email from our technical people I have copied below is
useful. I'm afraid we can't actually help with the problem though.
'This is not a site issue. The problem has been ongoing since last Thu
approx and having done a race route etc last week we were able to
confirm that the problem is local to that ISP not us - possibly other
ISP's in Australia as well.
Message ( eventually ) from Optusnet was
" Finally I got someone to talk to the correct people at Optus. He
tells me that it looks like some of the cables/routers are out of action
because of the earthquakes in Taiwan on the 29th which may have had an
effect on it because Optus uses the routers at Singtel in Singapore.
They did lose a
significant amount of data apparently. Even if this is not the problem
they have sent a 'ticket' to the dns server people to look into the
problem. "
I'm sorry we can't help further- the problem is at the Australian end /
ISP settings - not a site problem as everyone else has been getting
access as normal.'
Thanks for your interest in our records. If you are concerned about
time lost, just get back to us and we can restart the session.
kind regards

Re: passwords
Hello Gill,
it is common for administrators not to know passwords for users: passwords are encrypted and kept completely secret. When a user forgets the password, a new password is generated at random and sent to the user. Log on with the new password and change it in "User details" to something more memorable.
Regards,
John

I experienced the same problem quite a few weeks ago. Using the same password and user name I’d used for ages, I was unable to access the site. Thinking I was losing my marbles I closed the site intending to try later. I then found an email, several days old, from SP replying to a new password request I hadn’t made. I contacted SP and received a prompt reply, which I have since deleted. I can’t remember exactly what it said but it was something along the lines that someone with the same user name had requested a new password. SP pointed out that their reply, containing a randomly generated password, was sent only to my email address and I could be assured there was no breach to my SP security.

Many thanks for all the replies, I am now able to log onto SP. Not exactly sure what happened though, as I definately did not change my password previously to the problem of not being able to log on. After many attempts at trying to log on using my user name, and each of the three different combinations of passwords sent to me, it finally allowed me access. I have now changed my password back to its original, as that is the most memorable for me Sporran.
Once again, many thanks.
Regards Gill
