Devan Coal Merchants, Ayrshire

Talking to my dad he said that his grandfathers family called Devan used to be coal merchants in Ayrshire. Can any one confirm this please. Thanks.

The location in Ayrshire and time period would help!

There's probably a commercial directory that will list the company.

The time would be about the turn of the 20th Century and would be in and around Ayr.

There nwill be a commercial directory which may well list the company.

It could be a local directory, i.e. limited to Ayr and surrounds, or a national directory, the best of the bunch being "Slater's".
