One of my relations died (aged 71) at Thrashbush Home, near Airdrie in 1926. Does anyone know anything about the history of the home, what type of home this was, or who it was for?
Best wishes
Brian

Thrashbush House
My GG Grandmother Sarah Kelly also died in Thrashbush House (1911).
It had previously been a Poor House until the 1930s when it became a Poor Law Institute.
According to my GG granny's death certificate she died of senile decay and had been "removed from Airdrie"-not quite sure what that means. I have been unable to find any records for her in the instituition.

I would suggest that the term "removed from Airdrie" could simply mean that she was taken from her home in Airdrie due to senility. Which could mean her behaviour was an issue or simply that she just couldnt look after herself, and perhaps her behaviour prevented her family (if around) from assisting to look after her.
Nowadays an ACAT would do a battery of tests to establish the level of care she required.

The modern day synonym would be something like "transferred". "Removed" back then didn't always have the element, in the meaning, of compulsion in some form that it often has today in this context.StewL wrote:Frances
