Hi, I am trying to trace any details on my G Grandfather William McDonald Livingstone born in Glasgow around 1844/45. His father was James Livingstone whose occupation was shown as a tailor on Williams marriage cert in `1879. Williams occupation was shown as a Lawyer on the marriage cert. He married Elizabeth WALLACE on 4th Jan 1879 in St Marks Church, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. He was Proof Master at the BSA after his marriage. He died in 1897. Any suggestions or help would be gratefully appreciated
Regards Chris in Oz

Hi Chris
...and a warm welcome to Talking Scot
If he was still in England following his marriage, you should find him there.
Best wishes

Hi,
I can track William after his marriage and until his death, it is his life before he met and married Elizabeth that remains a mystery to us. My Gran told my Mom he was born in Glasgow and the census records for 1881 and 1891 confirm this, but we can't trace his birth etc to find out who his parents and maybe other siblings are which is quietly driving us around the bend. Had hoped to track him through his service with the 43rd of Foot (Black Watch) and even that is proving a difficult job.
