Hello,
Would anyone happen to know about the exact nature of a spirit dealer, for example, how they would work, could this be a profession alongside another?
A very helpful lady at the Mitchell told me about a John Wishart who appeared on the Burgess Rolls in 1828 as a weaver and spirit dealer.
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hi Andrew,AndrewP wrote:I'm sure it has come up somewhere on TalkingScot a while back. Try the search button at the top of the forum.
Yes, I thought there was a thread about this a while ago, however I've not turned anything else up using the search feature other than the obvious. I'm more interested in the 'mechanics' of spirit dealing, for example, would someone have a shop in the style of a modern day off-licence, or would they work door to door? Or perhaps was it more of a 'back-street' profession?
Best,
Scott
