Help with birthplaces in 1851 Census .....

The 1851 Census for Inverness, Inverness shows my
great x 4 grandmother Isabella Reid, (widow, using maiden name)
living with her 3 grandchildren
Jame Dyer,
my great x 2 grandfather, Hugh Dyer,
Isabella Dyer

I don't know quite what to make of the line that looks like 'Ross hue Avoch'

I'm also curious about what is meant by:

Inverness
do. Aberdeen

(I know that 'do' means 'ditto', is there an Inverness in Aberdeen?)

Hi heymarky,

Ross-shire, Avoch is what is meant there (Ross<sup>hire</sup>)

The "do" before Aberdeen seems to be a mistake - it certainly makes no sense.

When searching on FamilySearch.org, I see the Scottish counties "Kinross" and "Ross and Cromarty".

I assume I want "Ross and Cromarty"?

Yes, you want Ross & Cromarty. Kinross is a separate county over 100 miles south of Ross & Cromarty.
