where is patrick gorman? .....

Post by karenc » Sat Feb 24, 2007 2:32 pm

Hi

i was trying to do some research yesterday for patrick gorman who was married to ann virtue. i foune out they had a son william who was born in old monkland in 1869. and that cert also said that they were married in 1843 in co. tyrone. i also know that they had a daughter matilda who was born in ireland.

patrick and ann died in langloan coatbridge in 1899 and 1900. so i thought i would get myself some credits for SP and check for census returns to try and find out if they had any more children.

i looked at various entries and i cant find them anywhere on the 1871, 1881 or 1891 census  [alien]

so if anyone can help or make any suggestions i would be very greatful.

Karen

P.S. i also know that matilda gorman married john feathers in 1872 in old monkland. there is a poor relief record for her at the mitchell but just as i found it when i was in last week i had run out of time an didnt get time to view it. so that may shed some light also.

Hi Karen

Do you have an approximate year of birth for Patrick and perhaps an occupation?

Here's Matilda in 1881, in case you don't have her.

Hi Karen,

They are there in 1871 as Goreman. Patrick and Nancy with six children aged 0 to 22. Still no Matilda - could Matilda and Mary Ann be the same person?

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Karen

Depending on the names Andrew has found in 1871, could this be them in 1881?

Hi Karen

Following on from the above, with a name like Ann Virtue there can't be many of them around

I did a parent search on the IGI for Patrick Gormley and Ann Virtue and there are 4 children there :o

Hi Karen & Jean,

The Goreman family in the 1871 census were: Patrick (47), Nancy (45), Maryann (22), Thomas (16), John (12), Alexr (6), Eliza (4) and William (8mo). The parents and Maryann were all born in Ireland, the others were born in various parts of Lanarkshire.

Following Jean's 1881 find, I see them there in 1891 as Gormley: parents and three of the sons. As a bonus, the Irish counties are named for the parents' birthplaces.

All the best,

AndrewP

Copies of the RC baptismal registers are held at National Archives of Scotland, and they sometimes state where the parents were from, though I don't know if it would be any more specific than County Tyrone. If Matilda was born in Ireland and then christened in Old Monkland after her birth, it may be worth a look.
