Indexing problem?

Post by heymarky » Wed Feb 28, 2007 3:54 am

I have found a DC for David Dyer, son of James Dyer and Ann Berry.

If I search for -
Surname: dyer
Forename: david
Year range: 1894 To: 1894

- I find the record.

If I add in 'Mothers Maiden Surnames: Berry', I no longer find it.

I'm guessing that it is an indexing problem and hoping that if I can guess what the mother's maiden surname has been mis-indexed as, I might find some of David's siblings. (Maybe they are similarly mis-indexed) None of my guesses is working.

Here is the original:

I've tried 'rerry' and various wildcard combinations. ('be*', '*ry', etc.)

When I tried 'b*' it didn't complain about not having enough non-wildcard characters, so I'm guessing that you cannot use wildcards in this field :?:

Any help would be appreciated.

Twice today I posted a question to which the answer was right there in front of me:

Mother's Maiden Surname
Note: Please use this field with caution because even if you enter the correct name in here, if it has not been captured in the index yet, you will not get back those results.

Only something like 10% of the entries in the death indexes have an entry in this field.

At the moment if you put a name in the mother's maiden name field, only answers that match this will be returned. In the near future, even where there is no mother's name in the index, other hits will be returned.
