Hotel boots?
I have what looks like 'hotel boots' as an occupation for a relative. Does this make sense to anyone?

Hi Jane,
Try uploading a copy to the gallery. Sometimes it helps if we can see the handwriting. Here's some instructions

Jane,
The most likely match for a census listing for my great grandfather has his occupation listed as "Boots" and shows him living in a hotel with his relationship to the head as "servant", so we're probably dealing with the same thing. I haven't been able to verify it, but I think it may actually be related to boots/shoes as my g grandfather spent most of his life as a shoemaker with his own business. Of course, it's just a guess at this point, so I'm interested to hear what people here come up with.

Hotel Boots
It does seem then that he was in the heady position of cleaning the boots!!! How he got from that to being a golf caddy I'll never know!
Thanks everyone.
Jane

Hi Jane:
He probably met a lot of people working in a hotel and someone lured him away to the courses.
Depending of the class of hotel and where it was located, some of those guests may have been able to pay a caddy more than the hotel.
Just a thought,
Frances

hi Muriel
Best wishes
Lesley
A golf caddy these days, possibly then, too, does a great deal more than just carrying the clubs - he needs to know the game and the course inside out and be able to advise on the best club for each shot, if needed.Presumably, that might also include carrying golf clubs!
Best wishes
Lesley
