Well it is my James Barton and Margaret McLuckie couple popping their heads into the forum again.
This time it is not my elusive James Barton that is the culprit, it is his wife Margaret McLuckie. Up until today I thought (yes you know what thought did) that I had her parents, but after getting an email regarding Margaret today, I was looking at her to compare what the sender was asking.
When it suddenly dawned on me, ok struck me like a bolt of lightning! It would now seem that I have made a mistake in linking her to the parents I thought were hers.
It was when I was going through the census data that I have her in that the age didn’t match up with that given on her DC.
1861 = 35
1871 = 40
1881 = 61
1904 DC = 68?
Covering the various dates/ages, there is a Margaret McLuckie b 1825 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire, which more than fits the possibility that this is her.
In my poor defence, this was one of my earliest ventures into family history, and I am surprised that I didn’t notice the DOB/Marriage date that I had, which would have had her at about 15 when she married, but of course this age doesn’t fit with later census ages.
Just a shame her son put down his parents details on her DC instead of hers.
But looking at the given names of her early children I think that the one born in 1825 is her. It would also be more consisten with her husbands age, although that could mean nothing.
The parents I think it may be are William McLuckie and Elizabeth Gardner. Margaret’s early children were James, William and Eliza. The other Margaret born around this time had an Alexander and Isabella as parents but there are none of these names given to her children, nor her grandchildren.
Well good people, what do you think, is this me clutching at straws again like I probably did with my first parent match-up
Long winded, of course, I get like that sometimes.
