1841 occupation help? (Ob Ch) .....

Post by robm0761 » Sat Jul 07, 2007 2:50 pm

The 1841 Scotland census (North Uist) reports the occupation of my 75 year old gr-gr-gr-grandfather Angus McAulay as"Ob., Ch.".

Does anyone have an idea what "Ob Ch" is short for? His son Ewen MacAulay is listed as a Crofter, if that is any help.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated!

Thanks!

"Object of Charity" - I would have never figured that out.

Many thanks Annette!
