Silly name? .....

Hi All
I was quite puzzled recently to come across the following piece of indexing on SP in the 1851 census:
1851 SMITH SILLY F 5 FEARN /ROSS AND CROMARTY 064/00 002/00 007

Knowing all the Smiths in Fearn at that time I could not resist a look to see who it was....(it is one parish where Smith is rare

- its the Rosses who are a nightmare in that area!! And yes, I have plently of those)

I have sent SP a contact form: my poor great great grandmother, Lily Smith must be turning in her grave

Who knows? It is pretty obvious what it says, but maybe that was because it was obvious to me who it was...?

Knowing the many foibles of Ancestry's transcriptions, I checked there, and they too have Silly Smith.

They could have at least given her the benefit of a doubt and written it up as SALLY Smith
