I was trying to transcribe a DC and couldn't decipher what kind of coal miner my ancestor was and discovered, according to the following site, that he was likely an Oncostman which means 1894: Workman not paid by the day http://www.dmm.org.uk/educate/mineocc.htm ...very interesting site for specific descriptions of coal miners. I wonder if miners who were paid by the day were like "temps" who went from mine to mine when needed and the others were permanent
