looking for any avaibale information.....

Post by karen kozak » Fri Jan 13, 2006 9:02 pm

am looking for any information on a John Begley who married Isabella McArthur Dec 8 1836 Neilston Renfrew Scotland. I've gotten the marriage bann and it says both at Kirktonfield in this parish were booked for proclamation...This is all I have on them..I've search many scottish sites and come up empty handed..It's like they don't exist..There were my grgrgr grandparents, any thing would be appricated birth dates/parents/siblings etc, not even sure if they ever immigrated to Canada. I know that they had 1 son Alexander Begley born approx 1846??? I think in England he was born, I know he came to Canada cause he showed up in the 1871 canadian federal census and after that he disappeared... Thanks for any help that can be given.

Hi Karen

If they were still in Scotland by 1841 they may turn up in that census.

It is supposed to be coming on-line at scotlandspeople.com in the very near future but whether that is a week or two or a month or two we'll have to wait and see.

Be patient and come back here often. They can knock down brick walls other people have not been able to manage!!!

Hello and welcome Karen,

I had a look at the 1851 census which is online at
http://www.barrhead-scotland.com/Cultur ... census.asp
But could not find the name Begley at all.

Have you had a look at this marriage, on SP, which took place in 1868 in case there is a relationship?

JAMES BEGLEY
Male Family
Marriages:
Spouse: MARY ANN MCQUADE Family
Marriage: 16 OCT 1868 Neilston, Renfrew, Scotland

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hullo Karen

I had a look through the Census Index CDs 1841 for Cathcart to Neilston, Abbey Parish Paisley and Erskine to Renfrew.

Lots of McArthurs in Neilston, including Isabellas, but wrong ages for yours.

The only Begleys I could find were in Port Glasgow, Ann 35, Hugh 35, Canvas Weaver and Bridget 7, all born in Ireland. They were living at Wood Lane, Port Glasgow.

Good to have you with us on TS

Hello Karen

First let me welcome you.... :D ...and now for my questions :(

Where did you get the names of Alexander's parents as John and Isabella? and... Why do you think Alexander was born in England?

The only longshot I can come up with at the moment is one birth in England registered to a John and Isabella Bagley in 1851.

BAGLEY, Alice Christening
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 10 Feb 1851
Christening Date: 13 Apr 1851 Recorded in: Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire, England
Collection: St Michael
Father: John BAGLEY
Mother: Isabella
Source: FHL Film 1538435 Dates: 1844 - 1855

Actually it's the only birth I can find anywhere to a John and Isabella. I spose it would be worth the effort to locate this family on the 1851 England census and see if they had anyone else in the household of interest  That's the best I can offer at this point!

Best wishes
Jean

Post by karen kozak » Sat Jan 14, 2006 3:03 am

First all thanks for the welcomes and nice to be aboard..And thanks for all the info that is beening supplied..
1- the question to as how I got Alex's parents name..I couldn't find anything on the elder Begley's so I started with Alex's children..I had all there names from my great grandmother and that is how I got Alex's name and then from there I got a marrage notice with his parents name in it.
Now the birth of Alex one document states England born and another states Scotland, but I can't find in both area..so I'm not sure exactly were he was born, When Alex married he was 40yrs old that was in 1880 Hamilton Ontario. His wife was 24 yrs old and she remarried after Alex died before 1900 when she remarried. I hope I answered some of the questions and again thanks for the help..this is wonderful, lots of new names, places, dates etc..again thanks karen
