Archibald Begley/Begly DOB 1842 .....

Post by donnab » Sat Apr 01, 2006 6:31 pm

Hello Everyone:

I'm looking for info on Archibald Begley or it could be spelled Begly DOB 1842? parents are John Begley and Isabella MacArthur/McArthur. Archibald Begley had 3 brothers James, John and Alexander who all are believed to immgrated to Canada 1871. However it is believed that Archibald stayed back to care with his mother Isabella. It is believed that John Begley died between 1851 and 1861 but not record of his death has been located yet. Any information or suggestions on where to search would be helpful. Thank you

Hello Donna,

What a coincidence!!

I've just posted a poorhouse application made by Archibald's mother.
Looks like you have a relation in Ontario or have you been in contact before?

Hello Everyone: Thanks again for your help. Annette yes I do have relation in Ontario, Karen is connected. If we are correct Isabella McArthur Bagley is both our GGG Grandmother. I read up on the poorhouse history very side it breaks your heart to see how life was for them. We have it so much better today than we even know. I just don't understand why they didn't bring her with them to Canada when they came she must have passed away from they could. Donna

Hello Donna,

Jack tells me there is a poorhouse application for James. If you want I could look at that one next time I'm at the library.
Hopefully it may solve the mystery of where he was born.

Hello Annette:

I would appreciate that if you wouldn't mind, please don't go out of your way but any help would be appreciated. This part of or family is the brick wall and if we can find anything out about them it would be a really appreicated.

Hello Donna,

I'm afraid John's application wasn't any help as to his birthplace.

Here is the short report:

John Beggley 29th January 1852 age 40 born in Ireland. Wife Isabella McArthur born Kilmonivaig.

Residing in 75 Mcalpine Street. A labourer at the Quay applies on account of an injury to his toe while at work among iron.
He applied before about 5 years ago when living in Brown Street and says I visited him. See report book 7 for March 1848 page 64.

I had a look for the older application but could not find it in the index.

I'll keep a note of the names and look again at some point.

Regards,
Annette M
